BIG Hypermarkets

A transformation on a grand scale

The project began in 2018, following the acquisition of 80 percent of Walmart’s operations in Brazil by the investment fund managed by Advent International. As a result, the Walmart brand would be replaced by BIG, in a large scale transition involving dozens of stores nationwide.

In the new retail context, hypermarkets evolved beyond places of purchase to become spaces of coexistence, convenience and experience for the whole family. The BIG brand was born from this transformation, with the objective of translating a more vibrant, welcoming and consumer centric environment.

The visual identity was designed to reflect this new energy. The use of bold colours and organic shapes reinforces a sense of joy and movement. The generous letter B symbolises abundance and scale, while the main palette of red, yellow and blue builds a bridge between the legacy of previous brands and BIG’s new positioning.

One of the project’s greatest challenges was timing. The replacement of façades, point of sale materials, uniforms and packaging had to occur almost simultaneously across all units. The new visual system ensured consistency, immediate recognition and a more positive atmosphere, bringing colour and life to BIG hypermarkets across Brazil.
